Last Quarter 2011 Short Term Mission Teams

Partnering with Global CHE Enterprises- Summary.

1. Modesto Covenant Church, California sent the medical and dental team led by Dr. Wally and Lydia Carroll on November 4 through 12. The CHE village of Chirramos among the Quiche people of Western Guatemala were blessed to host this team which also taught the children….

and shared CHE Lessons with the local CHE Midwives

2. On November 13 through 20 there was follow up with the CHE Women and Children of Chirramos and Chicox. The STM Women’s Team from Mission Community Church, Gilbert Arizona led by Debbie Mueller and Debbie Falconer were busy working handcrafts and building relationships visiting homes and exchanging cooking arts to encourage the local CHE Women to go on with Micro-Enterprising to become empowered on their financial and material needs as they are been on the spiritual reaching their village for Christ.

3. Water Provision continues to be a need but also an opener for hardened thirsty souls. Deer Creek Church and Littleton Bible Chapel from Colorado plus Calvary Church, Muscatine Iowa sent teams in a row well coordinated by the Douglas Brothers (Kirk & Gloria and Mike & Christina) and Jim Mott & Jeanne to serve 3 villages in Guatemala plus one in Honduras. Medical clinics were simultaneously conducted and children and women in each village did not miss been ministered to.

Three drilled wells plus a water distribution system and pump installation in a row empowers the local CHEs to their ongoing witness to these four villages.

In GCE and the CHE Meso-America Region we continue to give Glory to the Lord and to thank Him for each one sending, praying and giving for Short Term Mission Teams to be willing to leave their comfort zone and join our GCE's CHE field servants to continue outreach for the Kingdom of God.

First Ever "CHE Woman Training Meso-America"!

CHE Woman Training of Trainers Seminar TOT, first ever for all the Global CHE Enterprises Meso-America Region!

In the Grace of God there was provision through Mission Community Church in Gilbert Arizona as to grant the means for this very much prayed for training which took place November 28 through December 3 in Quetzaltenango Guatemala, home of the Mesoamerica CHE Regional Office.

30 women from El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, USA and Guatemala were taught by our Region’s CHE Woman Resource Facilitator Ms. Darling Lopez and Master Trainer Fatima Medina from Nicaragua where they have championed implementing CHE Woman Programs.

Among the trainees we were privileged to have Dr. Marcia Coffia sent by Medical Ambassadors Int/LifeWind. Also Ms. Linda Rinzel came sent by Mission Community Church to facilitate very important topics such as Ministry to victims of Rape and Abuse and also to learn the CHE Woman TOTas implemented in the GCE Mesoamerica context.

Four full days of CHE Woman lessons in LePSAS (CHE way) did not make the participants weary as they all wished it was longer or to be followed up soon.

Marcia Coffia wrote: “I pray that God will open great doors in Central America for CHE/CHE Woman to serve him. May He bless and multiply this work for His Glory. I am very grateful to have learned so much this week and I pray that God will give wisdom in my work as a partner with your team”.

Linda Rinzel also wrote: “This training, far, far exceeded any thoughts I had about what it would be like. I have learned so much that I know I will use again & again. I loved the dramas & how they were used to generate questions, thoughts & ideas about the topic to be discussed. Darling is an excellent facilitator, who kept me engaged- she is very gifted towards this ministry. All of the women participating together and having the desire to learn how they can help build other women up & see God be glorified in their communities was so evident. I am going away more confident in the call of God for my life”.

Maria Pena Cortes, Mexico, shared: “..I learned so many things that will really help me a lot with my wish to help the Tarahumara women to be healed spiritually and will feel important on this earth, that they are also loved by God”.

Estela Tzita, Guatemala expressed: “I learned the value of how to share the Gospel and how to get the members of our communities involved in the process of learning so they can emerge for change both spiritually and physically and their generations also”.

Marta Henriquez, Honduras: “Even I already knew CHE , obviously I liked more CHE Woman because we do not see unknown topics but those daily problems we see in our communities..so we are the ones to take the Good News to more women”.

El Salvador’s participant: “I am eager to work with CHE Woman….I know now that many like me can fulfill our expectations and challenges to implement the needed activities as community, so I am very thankful to God”.

The CHE Village of La Cieneguilla among the Quiche people in Guatemala have become so empowered by the Holy Spirit through Community Health Evangelism CHE that they have continued to work on their church project and have just completed the roof last October.

Now they have much more work to keep on to fill the new facility been built with many more new converts as they keep ongoing witnessing and both the Body of Christ and the physical building will be edified. Marcos Gomez and Mariano, CHE trainers have been instrumental on this accomplishment. Praise the Lord with us!

Meso-America Regional Council

In June about 35 Global CHE leaders and staff attended the Meso-America Regional Council in Guatemala. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Global CHE family to join together for prayer, worship, encouragement, teaching and seeking the Lord for the future.

Clean Water for the People of Honduras

The water ministry of Global CHE Enterprises is expanding!

In March, Kirk Douglas and Hugo Gomez, Jr. arrived in Guatemala with a newly donated truck and well- drilling rig. It had been a long drive -- from Denver, to Houston, then through Mexico and finally Guatemala. Crossing two borders, along with dealing with immigration officials and mountains of paperwork can only be described as "an adventure".

Kirk's brother, Mike had already been in Guatemala for a few days working on the CHE Center property while waiting for the truck and well-drilling equipment. Once it arrived, Mike and Dr. Gomez headed to Honduras to explore potential water projects with the CHE teams working there. In Honduras, Mike and Hugo met the CHE teams, visited several potential well sites and made preparations for the training of the CHE team to drill wells.

The Rig Is Put To Work

While Mike and Dr. Hugo were in Honduras, Kirk used the existing well drilling equipment to repair the rain water and sewer system at the Mennonite Seminary in Guatemala City. The seminary leaders expressed their appreciation to Global CHE -- the work Kirk did saved them $10,000!

Now that we have two sets of well-drilling equipment we are able to provide water to people in both Guatemala and Honduras!

We are so grateful for those who have invested in these two sets of equipment. We are also grateful for Mike Douglas and Littleton Bible Chapel (Colorado) and Kirk Douglas from Deer Creek Church in Littleton, Colorado for their investment of time and knowledge in training Hugo Jr. and the local CHE teams in drilling for water.

Pray for our teams in Honduras and Guatemala to be good stewards of these talents entrusted to us.

God At Work In San Marcos Niza, Guatemala

Global CHE Enterprises has been working in San Marcos Niza, a village in the coastal plains of western Guatemala for 5 years. Amazing things have happened -- a new water system, a new school is under construction, backyard agricultural projects abound and the physical and spiritual health of the community has improved.

In addition, the church has grown! Here is a picture of the old church, and the new church which was built right beside the old one.

Al and Jessie Anderman and Karl and Debbie Mueller (Al and Karl are members of the Global CHE Enterprises Board of Directors) along with Dr. Hugo Gomez, Hugo Gomez Jr. and two CHE trainers (Nasario and Margarito) were able to visit San Marcos Niza on April 12. They met with the CHE Committee, listened to the stories of what God has been doing, and toured the village. It was obvious to see the pride of the CHE Committee and the villagers in what they have accomplished over the years. The transformation was not just physical -- it was spiritual, emotional and social -- it was wholistic -- in every sense of the word.

The children -- as usual, were a joy.

1- Please pray for Miriam Gomez, Hugo's wife. She is undergoing treatment for Bells Palsy, and the Gomez family needs your prayers!
2- Pray for the Church of God in the western region of Honduras, as they have decided to include CHE training in the pastoral curriculum.
3- For the decision to hold the CHE Meso-America Regional Council in June in Zihuatanejo Mexico. Pray that we will be good stewards to see the three CHE areas well represented.
4- Pray for the paperwork still pending to be completed to take the new drill rig into Guatemala and the used rig into Honduras to expand the water projects as part of CHE ministry. Pray the God will deliver us from more corruption at the borders and customs.
5- Pray that the CHE team in Honduras will be good stewards with the drilling equipment they will receive soon.
6- Pray that God will provide resources to fund a caretaker at the CHE Center property. Without somebody permanently there it is impossible to grow crops,raise livestock or begin building.
7- Pray for the Messicks (missionary family from WorldVenture) who will be arriving in Guatemala April 30.
8- Pray for confirmation for the Gomez' daughter Christa as she is applying to volunteer to a Kibbutz in Israel for 2 months this summer.

65 Families Receive Clean Water

We rejoice with 65 families in the community of Los Vasquez who recently received the gift of fresh, clean, water. As you can see from the pictures below, drilling a well is not an easy process.

In addition, 21 people graduated from Community Health Evangelism training in Quilinovillo. These men and women will now be working in their own community to see spiritual, social and economic transformation occur. Pray for them as they begin this ministry together.

The CHE team led by Claudia W. Martinez in Mexico has planted a new church that is based in a Rehabilitation home for alcoholics and drug addicts.

Pray that the Lord will continue to bless this outreach and that this church will grow numerically and spiritually.

The CHE team in Mexico also has a large focus on ministry to children. Below is a photo of some of the children that the CHE team is working with in Huitchila in the Mexican state of Morelos.

Short-Term Mission Teams

Short-Term Mission teams from Deer Creek Church and Littleton Bible Chapel in Colorado came to Guatemala in November for three weeks and worked together with our GCE staff and volunteers in two villages and the CHE Center property.

Not only were the villages supplied with fresh, clean water, but several villagers committed their lives to the Lord!. The teams drilled wells, built water towers, conducted medical and dental clinics, ministered to children and showed the Jesus film. Two village pastors were also blessed with concrete floors for their homes!

Short-Term Mission To Guatemala

The following is a report from Mission Hills Church in Littleton, Colorado on their recent short-term mission trip to Guatemala.

We are back from Guatemala. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. We had an incredible trip. We experienced God’s care and blessing multiple times during the trip.

First, one of our team members lost their families passports somewhere between security check-in at Denver and boarding the plane. We sought God’s help. She found it under her seat half-way to Dallas. Not sure how that happened.

Second, we were unable to land at Dallas airport because it was closed due to a storm. We had to land in Abilene Texas to refuel. When we finally got to Dallas we had only 18 minutes to make our flight to Guatemala. That flight was delayed also due to the storm. We all made it on the plane in time.

Third, one of our team members was coming to Guatemala from Costa Rica. She was waiting for us at the airport in Guatemala City even though we were 2.5 hours late. Our team and our medical supplies all arrived due to God’s provisions and your prayers.

Dr. Gomez and his Global CHE workers transported us to Huehuetanango and then to the village of Cieneguillas.

We set up our clinic in this village in the northwest highlands of Guatemala. During our time in the village we treated over 200 patients, ministered to over 50 women through Bible study and illustrative, taught over 30 children and worked on the foundation for the new church in the village.

Your donations provided medications, supplies, and resources for Dr. Gomez and his workers. Every dollar designated for medical supplies purchased 7 dollars worth of medications. Your generosity also provided nearly $5,000 for Dr. Gomez and his team to use for Global CHE projects.

We saw several people pray to receive Christ. The pastor and his congregants were overwhelmed with joy and praise to God for what was accomplished in the week our team was in the village. They send their praises and God’s blessings to you.

A New Van For Global CHE Enterprises!

In August we asked our friends and supporters to help Global CHE Enterprises purchase a much needed new 15 passenger van for the ministry in Guatemala. Our previous van gave wonderful service with upwards of 200,000 miles serving visiting teams for 10 years.
One of our supporting churches offered to match -- dollar-for-dollar -- up to $20,000 for the purchase of the $40,000 van!

God was faithful, and the new van has been purchased. It was somewhat of a long, and winding road. By the time the large funds transfer and banking challenges were overcome, all the 2010 model vans in Guatemala were gone and the 2011 models were up in price. But with much prayer, God provided a brand new 2011 Toyota Van for the price of a 2010!

Water Projects

Water Projects are a good example of how your support of Global CHE Enterprises is multiplied many times by other financial supporters, people who go as Short Term Teams to help, and our in country staff and trainers whom you support with your generous gifts.

Each fall, following the typhoon and rainy season, Deer Creek Church and Littleton Bible Chapel from Colorado have come together to send short term mission teams to serve Guatemala. Previously they raised support to send a portable drilling rig and a diesel truck to tow it. This year three teams of about 12 will come together to work on four projects.

1 - Tres A Calle- Tercera Calle
This village is a “church plant” from the villages of Monte Cristo and La Nueva Gomera. The village was hit hard by a recent typhoon which wiped out its church building. In addition to helping rebuild the church, teams will install a well and tower, organize a VBS and conduct medical and dental clinics.

2 - Paul- (“Pa-ul”) is a high mountain community at 10,000 feet. Its church (4 concrete block walls – no floor or roof) was also destroyed by the typhoon. A team will serve the village with reconstruction, a well and tower, VBS and medical needs.

3 - Nuevo Palmercito- Palmarcito
This village of 8,000 people lost its entire water supply in the recent storms. A team will assist the village in developing a short term water supply until a permanent solution can be developed.

4 - Community Health Demonstration Farm- If time permits, a team will help build a water diversion spring box on this farm to be used in training communities about water system development.

A church in the mid-west is trying to raise funds to get Dr. Hugo a new van. A donor in that church has offered to match dollar-for-dollar all funds raised by September 10. The total van project including taxes, registration, and insurance for the first year is $40,000.

The church feels that they cannot raise all the needed funds, but the donor matching their funds has said that he would double all funds that our Short Term Team partner, Face to Face, would raise also! So, we are trying to pass the word as quickly as possible.

CHE Center Update

This picture is the East side of the property which is far right side of the plot plan. You can see the CHE Center plot plan by clicking HERE.

In the picture on the left, the sections of crops are farmed by people leasing the land in exchange for labor to clear the land and then build a section of fence when we are ready to build and they leave. People who have not seen the property for a year are amazed at the progress of clearing off the land and planting crops.

At the other side of the property, next to the river (marked agricultural area) the land is divided and assigned to the CHE trainers. Each one has the responsibility to clear and cultivate their section, and they receive the proceeds of what they harvest.

We were there at the CHE Center with most of the local trainers, Dr. Hugo, and the Douglas brothers, Kirk and Mike. They were doing a survey to plan how the water will be supplied. The well drilling attempts were not successful because of a dry hole and on 2nd attempt, hitting rock too hard to go through. There are several springs on the far (East) side of the property which have plenty of water, even now at the end of the dry season. The plan is to capture the spring water in a collection box and with a solar powered pump, send it up over the ridge. There it will be stored and distributed for agriculture use, and also treated and stored purified to supply all the pure water needs of the property.

Basic CHE principles – demonstrating principles of what we teach and preach to the CHE communities. We are building an example, a model of our ministry. So it is important to do things in order, just as we teach, to walk our talk. We will define seventeen levels to develop the property to fulfill the vision. Below I will give a big picture of some of the vision.

Just as we have 17 levels in our CHE program, we will have plans to develop phase by phase, in order, and demonstrating our ministry.

Infrastructure precedes development = water, sewer system/latrine, security (fences), and access before starting with buildings. Example, the water will be a demonstration of alternate ways of processing/purifying the water. Four different processes which have 4 different costs to install, and four different levels of benefit. So communities could see firsthand the alternative solutions and make a decision which is best for them.

Components of the Vision for the CHE property.

• Training center facility (also called multi-purpose) which will have provision to add a second floor in a later phase.

• Dormitories are shown next to training center but may be located instead on the slope on the far east side, the view in the attached photo.

• Many varieties of crops for production (commerce) and for demonstration will be in production. Water trees, 3 mahogany trees, and Noni fruit tree, have been imported from Nicaragua and are now growing on the property. Many traditional crops are also now in production on the land.

• Animal husbandry will be demonstrated (and profitable) in the agricultural area. Part of the integrated holistic “back yard stewardship” program. This will also include fish ponds and the above agricultural.

• Demonstration of the appropriate community technology. This includes water capture, sanitary methods, and the above mentioned demonstration of alternate ways of processing/purifying the water.

• Heaven’s Gate (called “Holy Land” experience on plot) is an area that will be developed to show and tell the stories of the Holy Land and of the bible. This will be especially for children programs.

• A dam will be constructed across the stream on the East side which will be a road over to the new area of cabins and will also create a lake on the property.

We appreciate your continuing support, sharing our vision, and serving God. We are getting better at networking with our support community and will appreciate any feedback and help with this.

Our prayer request is for God to direct us toward fulfilling this vision He has given us in His time and His way, and at the same time, continue to faithfully fulfill our core CHE ministry. We also ask for wisdom and direction on how to better minister to our community of supporters

These participants, leaders at varied levels of experience, involvement and/or responsibility in the CHE Movement in Latin America arrived together to conclusions from:

Articulating a practical statement of Vision and Mission, Analizing the previously conducted survey, Developing the Wall of Wonder Exercise for CHE Latin America, and by articulating Practical Objectives for the next five years. Plus, they identified the Issues in the way through the exercise of the Problems Tree and wrote Action Steps via the Problem Solution Tree exercise.

All of the previous led to a set of Tasks with Plans, Time-Frame, and Facilitators toward accomplishing the vision, the misión and the answers to the theme question.

The Action Plan include Short, Middle and Long Term Steps.

We acknowledge Terry Dalrymple & Jody Collinge from the Global CHE Network Coordinating Team who traveled by different routes more than 50 hours from Asia in order to make it to our meeting on time. The Lord only could have their strength renovated.

Something that we need now is prayer, much prayer and we count on you for that..

Fourth CHE Internship Training, 2010.

The 4th Spanish CHE Internship Training was a Miracle! After postponing it last year in October the Lord allowed our Meso-America CHE Region to be hosts for the Interns February 8 through March 6.

We had a total of 12 full time participants. Our Region sent three from Guatemala and one from Nicaragua. The Caribbean & South America Region sent 3 participants from the Dominican Republic, one from Haiti, one from Venezuela and 3 Cubans. We were also very glad to have a handful of local part time participants.

We will always be grateful to the Caribbean & South America Region for having coordinated the program and curriculum with us. We are also grateful to our Central America 2 Area and the Nicaragua CHE Teams –FIEMCA and Nehemiah Center— for having worked the logistics and welcome the CHE Interns during the field work visits to the CHE villages and neighborhoods. Praises to the Lord for all and each one of them!

Modesto Covenant Church California came to the CHE village of Chirramos among the Quiche speaking people in Guatemala as a Short Term Mission team February 5-13^th.

Among the harvest fruit there are new believers, women who now know about how to recognize breast cancer danger signs, children who were taught Biblically about respect and dental and medical patients treated and prayed for.

God is at work in Meso-America! Here is some of what is happening.

Latin America CHE Internship Training

The 4th Latin America CHE Internship Training began in Nicaragua on February 8. This month long training brought together participants from Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Guatemala.

Short-Term Mission Teams

We are grateful for the effective ministry of the team from Modesto Covenant Church in California who worked with us in Guatemala from February 5-13. The team worked in the village of Chirramos and saw several people giving their lives to Christ as a result of their ministry.

Another team from Calvary Church in Muscatine, Iowa came to Guatemala February 12-20. This team joined our MAM CHE teams in the village of El Eden. Despite several challenges (delayed arrival and the failure to be able to clear medications through Guatemalan customs) the team had a blessed time. A number of people in El Eden became Christians -- including a key leader in the village!

Global CHE Center Land Purchase

We are in the process of raising funds for the final payment on the land for the Global CHE Center. God has already provided about $10,000 towards the payment. We are believing him for the remaining $15,000. Pray that the funds will arrive in order to make the payment on March 15.

Nicaragua Meetings in March

March will be a very busy month for Dr. Hugo Gomez and his staff. The Latin American CHE Regional Council meeting begins on March 7 -- the day following the completion of the Internship Training. This meeting will bring together CHE Leaders and Coordinators from across Latin America.

Then, March 9-10 will be the Latin American Founders Meeting of the Global CHE Network. This is the fourth Founders meeting of this network of ministries involved in the work of CHE globally. The previous meetings were held in Phoenix, Ghana and Nairobi. Dr. Gomez has an important role to play in the leadership of these meetings in Nicaragua.

The Church Providing Water for Life in CHE Villages

This December our Mam Training Team the CHE volunteers at the villages of Monte Cristo and San Marcos Niza in the coastal plains of Guatemala were encouraged to host the 2 STM teams from Littleton Bible Chapel Colorado. The Lord enabled them to be able to work water projects besides the medical and dental clinic since there are no public health services near by. Vacation Bible School for the children at the villages were conducted too.

The electrical installation was also completed in both church facilities.

The outreach with the Jesus film also produced fruit to bring to the Kingdom.

Mike Elliott from Maryland was very instrumental in helping us set up the camp.

While his wife Peggy and 3 ladies more were working hard at our office and church's hospital in Xela, Mike was enduring the tough conditions which resulted in the minimum facilities for the trainees to complete the course. Thank God for Mike and Peggy's team.

New Modality for CHE Training of Trainers Seminars

In order to accelerate multiplication through volunteer CHE Trainers our Mam and Quiche teams were guided to experiment a camping style training.

In November the property for the future CHE Center was converted into a training site.

Tents for dorms, for kitchen, for showers and latrines and for the classroom had to be installed previously to the arrival of the trainees.

Our dear friend Velma Newton RN has been down to Guatemala for countless occasions with the Bricks and Bones STM team from our supporting Mission Hills Church in Littleton Colorado.

While Roy her husband, was having to clear their driveway due to lots of snow at home, Velma was enduring the hot weather specially keeping busy due to the many patients to be seen and given Jesus Love.

Lona Hanson Weaver a RN who has been to Guatemala many times for many years returned last November with the STM team from Mission Hills Church to help us treating the daily scores of patients in need at the village of El Nuevo Palmarcito. Lona is also one of our dear Global CHE Enterprises Board Members. Lona is making plans to return to Guatemala in 2010 with the Midwifery Training team. We need to pray for this team too and include Doug, Lona's husband, in your prayers so he will join for this trip.

Physical Therapy available to villagers!

The villagers at El Nuevo Palmarcito had the privilege to receive among the STM from Mission Hills Church the gift of Physical Therapy that God have trusted to Stephanie.

While her husband Dave was working the lawn around the public health post and school grounds, and her son Matthew playing sports with the village kids, Stephanie treated many

patients who also suffer from their tough work carrying those heavy loads on their heads and backs.

Verbal witness can not lack previous to, during and after medical care. Then, you know, ongoing home to home witnessing by the future CHE volunteers will be the key to reach this new village for the Kingdom of God.

La Gomera and Aztlan water provision improved

In recent October the STM team from Deer Creek Ch. Colorado working along with local CHE volunteers at the village of Aztlan and La Gomera in the Pacific coastal plains in Guatemala were able to complete the water provision to the first village and enhance the system at the later. Both villages are able to bear witness of the Love of God who provides

the eternal water in Jesus and the current need been solved.

Sustainability also needs strong foundation.

After the STM team left, the local CHEs continued working and this is the accomplishment as of 2 weeks ago.

Everyday the project advances as long as they can gather more materials with their local strength and resources.

But the thrust given by the STM visiting team has had an impact on the life of the locals which will result in long term fruit.

CHEs at the village of Paul (among the Quiche people in Guatemala) received such a blessing that the Short Term Mission Team sent by Lexington Baptist Church from South Carolina were able to join the locals in their construction project. September 20 through 27.

Mixing concrete by hand, carrying stones and water plus buckets of concrete to pour for the footings of the new church facility proved in few days that the foundation for sustainable relationships also need very much effort.

Learning Teachers.

The first week of August became very busy and exciting for the village of Las Granadillas among the Indigenous Mam area on the Highlands of Western Guatemala.

A short term mission team of teachers formed by Community United Methodist Church and the schools there came led by Peggy Elliot and husband Mike from Crofton Maryland.

They came to share their teaching experience and to learn from the local teachers experience at the village school. The local teachers became more equipped with teaching materials, books and computers plus the encouragement that such an activity can produce.

The children and parents will not forget this time of innovations and improvements to build in their development. The CHE trainers and volunteers received very updated First Aid techniques

Community UMC of Crofton has taken very seriously the Equal Dignity Village Changers approach with the village of Las Granadillas. The "Puesto de Salud" (Health Post) was completed previous to this week and is ready to help in health care as a complement to the Prevention emphasis in CHE. The local CHE leaders also received a very updated First Aid techniques training from one of the STMs. This team will be welcomed by the village upon returning in 2010 and beyond.

Working Children in CHE Projects.

There is a lot of controversial thinking about working children. If you prefer not to see this happening, please do not come to the CHE villages. In San Marcos Niza, like in all of the communities where CHE ministers, children are workers since they learn to walk. Their parents give them tasks to help in the housekeeping or their crops or watching over their livestock. It is a virtue that many city children do not enjoy even amidst poverty. This virtue is, of course, threatened when it prevents the children from going to school.

But in this case, very well motivated by the example of the CHE parents and the Short Term missionaries from Saratoga Presbyterian Church California, we were amazed to see the willingness among these children to put their hands to work alongside the adults.

Both local and STMs investment of labor, time and resources completed the church facility floor. The children could not stop their curiosity and even helped the artist performing the mural on the church wall.

The local church members and Pastor plus all CHE people in the village rejoice to have this improvement in the house of prayer. It happened during July 30 through August 7.

Church facility in Nueva Cajola nearer to completion

The village of Nueva Cajola near the Pacific coast of Guatemala received the Short Term Mission team from Bethany Bible Church from Phoenix last July 17th-25th.

The team led by Jim Grubble joined the local church members working on the finishings to the walls of the new facility plus the installation of the new doors and windows. The local style of mason work was soon mastered by the missionaries who did advance a lot on the 4 days of work. Simultaneously the medical and dental clinic been conducted went smoother because of the help of the team members joining the local CHE volunteers in keeping order, doing the vital signs and organizing and dispensing the medications to the patients who gladly contribute the minimum amount they have to pay for the service.

As usual, the CHE committee decides the fee for the service and the funds raised go to the same CHE committee projects. Educational Games with the children and mainly the relationship which began among visitors and locals can not be less important among the accomplishments of the week at this CHE village among the Mam people of the lowlands. The verbal witness brought came to encourage those CHEs who by doing the home visits sometimes grow weary when the seed seems to take longer to spring out.

During the LifeWind International Council meeting last May, Hugo received "on behalf of all the fellow workers who have been faithful to the Lord and loyal to us, (like Florentin Cabrera since 1986) and on behalf of our supporters and family" a plaque for 25 years of ministry with the organization. Hugo added at the moment "I hope you can see us (Region)as a grown up child who has matured--hopefully-- and is ready to go on his own".

Adolfo Leon, Our Coordinator for Central America 1 CHE Area (Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Belize). Came to visit and meet the Mam and Kiche teams of CHE Trainers last June. Manuel, a pastor and CHE volunteer from the village of Joconales in Honduras came along.

Adolfo brought lots of encouragement to our 2 Guatemala Teams of Trainers.

His expertise as Agronomical Engineer and CHE Experience in Honduras is very valuable. Praise God with us for Adolfo and his wife Mayra and family. They heard the call and took the challenge to take the position since January. You are investing in God’s Kingdom by supporting Adolfo in multiple ways beginning by prayers. Pray for their country now as they are going through a political turmoil.

The Mam and Quiche CHE Teams of Trainers sent to Nicaragua in September 2008 to learn “Back Yard Integrated Stewardship” at Rancho Eben-Ezer. We will be applying this concept at the future CHE Training Center in Guatemala to multiply it throughout the country and Region.

Ministry Development

In 1983 while serving at the Mam Clinic in the highlands of West Guatemala, Dr. Hugo and Miriam Gomez received the invitation from Dr. Mike Kadera (Latin America Director) to join MAI as associates. At that time the Gomez’s saw God’s intervention very clearly. They did not hesitate to join. By December of that year former Dr. Raymond Benson MAI Founder and Mr. Dick Hagerty Board Member visited Guatemala and called Hugo to join MAI fulltime.

Obeying the call was a must. Transitioning out of one denomination ministry with the National Presbyterian Ch Health Program into the interdenominational Medical Ambassadors Int took intense pain then. But by February 1984 fulltime involvement with MAI became a reality. The Gomez’s continued to help the Mam Clinic and the Diakonia Development Program(Presbyterian) until part of 1985. Working evangelism and community health around Mam Indigenous villages soon opened doors onto the Quiche people also. Reaching the Kanjobal, the Kekchi and the Ixil ethnic groups never became long term nor sustainable but the incursions saw some fruit.

Before 1992 Hugo had never been further south than El Salvador. It was only after prophesy and dreams revelation that Arno Enns former MAI Latin America
Director began taking Hugo to teach Community Health Evangelism throughout most countries in the continent. Then Frank Fiorenza and John McWilliam –in turn- continued to give Hugo the privilege to assist them in most Latin America countries. Since 1995 MAI appointed Hugo to oversee more than Guatemala and currently Hugo has been coordinating Mexico through Panama—The CHE Meso-America Region.

The Gomez’s blessed cycle of life among Medical Ambassadors Int 1983-2009 evolved in such a way that by Jan 2008 LifeWind had called several people and churches to consider forming the CHE Meso-America Partnership.

Now there is a team of servant leaders who have gathered and organized the new Global CHE Enterprises Board of Directors. For several years they have been coming to serve short term in Guatemala along the Teams of Trainers of CHEs and the villages where CHE is implemented. These servants have joined knees in prayer and hands in extra-labor to see the Meso-America Region CHE People stand firm and prepared to go forward for more service in the Kingdom of God, beyond, on to the globe as God will allow.

The pain of transition out of LifeWind Int has been as intense as that in 1983 but the process has been soothed by the Mutually Transforming Relationships we enjoy in God's Grace.

Why Global? …..because of the Great Need and His Great Commission
Why CHE? ……because of His Great Commandment and Great Example Matthew 9:35-36
Why Enterprises? because of Our Great Commitment to be fruitful in His Kingdom Business

This GCE Board of Directors are living now –together as one body-- the Word found in Matthew 9:37-38 “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
